Flax is not only grown for it's edible Flax seed, it also makes a gorgeous flower as well. These red and blue flowers grow to an average height of anywhere between 20 and 24 inches tall. The blooms appear through the warm months of Spring and Summer and will lure in all sorts of insects to the garden. Many gardeners add Flax to insectaries and butterfly gardens.
Flax can be categorized as an annual or a perennial, depending on the variety you are looking at. The plants are best established directly outdoors and grow well in a naturalized setting, directly in the garden, or along fences and borders.
