Lavender Moonflower Seeds (Ipomoea turbinata)

Packet of 10 Seeds

Description

Single Packet of 10 Seeds

Grow a garden thats filled with Lavender Moonflower plants, from freshly harvested Ipomoea turbinata seeds. Lavender Moonflower will produce magnificent, purple colored blooms, which are accented by large, spade shaped leaves. The plants are vines, much like Morning Glories, and will trail along fences and railings. They are also popularly seen covering a trellis, or even pillars and railings, on balconies and porches as well. Lavender Moonflower plants extend outwards, growing to a length of about 8 to 10 feet long.

Categorized as an annual flowering vine, Lavender Moonflower can grow quickly in a single season. The plants will bare long vining stems, green leaves and beautiful flowers, all within a single season. All plant life will wilt and cease to exist after the first frost arrives. If you allow the flowers to dry out at the end of the season, seeds can be collected for replanting the following year.

Sowing The Seed

Moonflowers can be started indoors, or directly outdoors. Whichever method you choose, it is best to soak the seeds for 24 hours or scar them with a knife or sandpaper, prior to sowing. If started indoors, sow in peat pots 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost, at a depth of 1” under topsoil. Transplant or direct sow outdoors when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed.

Growing Conditions

Moonflowers will enjoy an area that receives full sunlight for the majority of the day. They prefer a rich soil that is also very well drained. Adding compost to your area of hard compact soil will improve drainage. Water daily with a mild water setting so that the soil is moist until germination has occurred.

Germination & Growth

Your Moonflower seeds will begin to germinate within 7 to 21 days after sowing. The plants grow to a mature length of 8 to 10 feet long and can be spaced 12 to 18 inches apart from one another. Lavender Moonflower displays beautiful, 2 inch, flowers that begin to bloom in the evening hours of the day.
