Sowing The Seed

Nigella flower seeds are best established directly outdoors when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed. Clear your sowing area of all unwanted plant life and weeds. Turn the dirt or lay don a new sowing medium. Scatter the black seeds to the surface of the soil not covering them with more than 1/16" of topsoil. They will require a bit of direct lighting to properly germinate.

Growing Conditions

Nigella flowers will enjoy an area of full sunlight and enjoys temperatures of at least 68F to 70F. They are adaptive to many soil conditions, but just be sure to check the drainage of your sowing medium. To increase your drainage, we recommend adding a light compost to any areas that consist of hard, compact soil. Water the seeds daily with a mist setting so that the seeds receive an ample amount of moisture until germination has occurred.

Germination & Growth

Your Nigella flower seeds will begin to sprout open within as little as 7 to 14 days after sowing. The plants will reach a mature height of roughly 12 to 18 inches tall, spreading a good 12 to 18 inches wide. The plants themselves can be spaced about 12 inches apart from one another. These unusual flowering plants will produce blooms in shades of pink, red, blue & white, displaying fern like foliage. They make an excellent cut flower for floral arrangements & bouquets and can be dried out for potpourri as well.
